Steps to Improve the Odds
Step 4. Assemble the data and information
In steps 2 and 3 you
not only defined the content of the project budget
justification, you also developed a checklist of the
information that you want to include.
Use the checklist to
determine the information you:
- already have on
hand
- dont have;
but, can get or develop quickly
- havent any
chance of getting in time to include in the
justification
Gather the information
for the first two points (what you have and can get quickly)
for easy reference while you are writing. For the information
that you want, but cant get, there are a couple of
options:
- find a substitute
(e.g., if you havent had time to fully
formulate the project control plan, a Gantt chart
might be included - use only the summary level)
- state that the
information is under development, why it is not
available, and when it will be available (e.g., if
you dont have the final budget estimate because
a contractors cost estimate is not due for
another week - say so - but, be sure to include your
best estimate of the amount).
