Tutorial: The IT Investment Management Approach ("Approach")

How the Approach Works - Evaluation Phase

2. Learn

Whichever analytic technique an organization chooses to employ, a goal is to learn and understand the causes of what worked and what didn’t. For example, analysis of:

  • successful projects/activities may identify innovative management or technical approaches that could be applied to other projects; these approaches might become internal "best practices"
  • those that were unsuccessful, may yield valuable clues to gaps in the Selection and Control phases or managerial and technical approaches to avoid in the future

3. Improve

Whether the "lessons learned" are what to do, what to avoid, or what to change, the organization’s process and management can be continuously improved. The payoff is improved IT investment decisions and organizational performance.
