Analysis is Performed
The nature and extent of the analysis depends upon:
- significance of the deviation
- criticality of the project
It is likely that the analysts would first contact the project manager for an explanation. If the explanation is plausible, and appropriate corrective actions have been taken, the analysis may stop here. However, sometimes the analysts will conduct a more thorough inquiry; particularly if they feel the project managers' explanation is questionable or the project is rated "high risk".
Usually within a week or two of the end of the reporting period (typically monthly), senior management receives a report of:
- all significant deviations
- the project manager’s explanation
- the analyst’s conclusions and recommendations
Performance measurement for this period is now complete; the next step is performance management.
